Last January 19, Rythmopolis won the Opus Award as the ‘Musical Event of the Year’ in a gala at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, in Montreal. CIRMMT member Fabrice Marandola, co-creator and producer of Rythmopolis, received the award on behalf of his team. A complete interview with Fabrice by Marc Hervieux is available on the website of the Conseil Québécois de la Musique (CQM).
Created by the CQM in 1996, the Opus Award aims to acknowledge excellence and diversity of concert music in Quebec. Now in its 23rd edition, the event has gathered approximately 85 volunteer judges evaluating concerts, creations, albums, etc., and 15 jurors deliberating to determine the recipients of the special prizes as is the case with Rythmopolis.
Including conferences, exhibits, workshops, and concerts, Rythmopolis took place in September of 2018 as an innovative immersive experience. Thanks to ICI Musique, the concert was broadcast online in 360°, and involved music, dance, acrobatics, and technology. Producers estimate that close to 10,000 people benefited from the series of free activities offered in collaboration with CIRMMT and the group Le Vivier.
